Nécrologie de Kendyl Smith-Trimm

Although our hearts are broken today, they will forever be full…for when you came into our lives you made us a family and our house a true home.  After a courageous and fierce battle with Osteosarcoma at the tender age of 8 years old, Kendyl passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on August 14th 2023.

Forever loved and cherished daughter of Cheryl Smith and Patrick Trimm. Natural born child to Rhys Pritchard and the late Shelley Anne Smith.  Adored granddaughter of Janet and Hugh Ferguson and Grandad Albert Pritchard (late Bernice).  Predeceased by her grandparents Alvin and Elsa Smith, Lester and Nora Smith and Richard and Loella Trimm.  Loving niece of Blair (Laura) Smith, Adam (Erin Winter) Pritchard, Peter Smith (Ev), Brian Smith, Sandra (Tim) Morris, late Patricia Smith, Joseph (Colleen) Trimm, Janice (Robert) Lampi, Karen (Bruce) Sutherland, Colleen Trimm, David (Sherry) Trimm, Jeff (Lori) Trimm, Jennifer (Jean-Paul) Allard. Loving grandniece of Merle (Carla) Smith and Roseann (Wayne) Papke.  Kendyl is survived by many cousins. She shared a very special connection to Emma, Connor and Bradley Smith, Wulfric Pritchard Winter, Kyah Lampi, Greg and Alyssa Morris, and Allyson Gagnon.  Kendyl held a special place in the hearts of “auntie” Carol Matko (Bernie) and “grandma” Marty.  Kendyl will be greatly missed by her Cathedral School family especially by her best friends, Ivy and Kalina, who were so supportive in Kendyl’s transition to her new school.  Kendyl had such an affectionate way with animals and will be forever missed by her fur babies Finnigan and Sammy.

Family meant everything to Kendyl. Whether it be a special family gathering, time spent at the cottage, road trips to visit family members out of town, movie nights, ice cream dates, building couch forts, hosting parties for her many many stuffies or rocking to the 60’s music with her favourite dance partner- Dad, Kendyl’s happiest times were those spent in the company of her loved ones.  She found great pleasure in life’s most simple offerings- exploring at the Smith family farm or walking the shoreline at the cottage.

She loved spending time at her “home away from home” with the Morris family where she could be found dressed up as a princess, an old granny and pretty much everything in between!  She loved playing tricks on different family members or just sitting quietly reading a book in her favorite cuddle chair.  Upon her return home, she was usually at least a toonie to the good and already planning her next trip to the dollar store. Kendyl formed an especially strong connection with her cousin Alyssa Morris and would refer to her as her “sister from another mister”. She also enjoyed her visits with Cousin Ally (Allyson Gagnon) especially when they included a sleepover.

Kendyl stole the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her beauty extended far beyond that of the human eye.  Her true beauty came from within.  She was a very loving, empathetic, witty and smart girl with an amazing sense of humor.  Given the opportunity, she could be a real character.  With her priceless expressions, her zingy one liners, and her very appropriate use of sarcasm, she could put a smile on anyone s face.

Kendyl was able to find beauty in everything. She had a profound appreciation for nature and the animal world. She was wise beyond her years, somewhat of an old soul in so many ways.  During her short time with us, she taught us so many important life lessons for which we will always be so grateful.  As witnessed during her year and a half battle with cancer, her strength, courage, and determination to overcome obstacles was truly amazing.  Kendyl had a big heart that was overflowing with love and gratitude.  She was always thinking of others and found so much pleasure in buying gifts for family and friends, not for any special occasion but just because…

Kendyl was the absolute best cuddler in this whole entire universe. She has created memories with her family and friends that will be cherished for a lifetime.  Kendyl will forever be “under the wing” and in the hearts of everyone who loved her so dearly.
