Carol Rowat died on June 12, 2014, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal at the age of 78. Born in Campbell's Bay, Que., she attended Shawville High School and graduated from McGill University with a bachelor of science in 1957. She taught secondary school in St. Lambert and Shawville before marrying Raymond Rowat, notary, of Shawville, Que.,her husband of 53 years. After raising a family of six children, she returned to the workforce at Pontiac High School, first as a supply teacher and later in the professional adult day programs of the Western Quebec School Board. Throughout her life, she was an active member of Shawville United Church. She loved her family and friends of UCW unit 6, and enjoyed professional sports, baking bread and the puzzles page. But she will be remembered, above all, for her selfless acts of kindness. Carol was the daughter of Kenneth and Pearl Smith of Shawville. She is survived by her husband Raymond, sister Gail (Herbert Hayes), sons Douglas (Pamela), David (Mary-Lise), Robert (Darly) and Andrew (Kara), daughters Nancy (Ernest) and Alison (Rusty), and 11 grandchildren. Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. No visitation on Tuesday. Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Shawville United Church at 2:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation.
