Nécrologie de Dominic John Foran

Though we can’t know for sure when he sang his first song, we can say that he sang for many a year after and was still singing as he passed from this world into the next. Dominic set sail in his own birch bark canoe on March 10, 2019 in his 94th year. He leaves behind Bunny, his cherished wife (and soul mate) of 68 years.

Dear brother of Loretta and Mae. Predeceased by brothers Donald, Vincent, Michael, Ambrose, Leo and Clement, and sisters Mildred and Gladys. Father to Tom Tracey (Linda), Grandpa to Ryan, Jenn and Giulia and Big Grandpa to Bella. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Urban.

Dominic had a passion for all things outdoors, and he had all the seasons covered. He spent many a day fishing on Vallilee’s Lake with Ervin. Winter brought snowmobiling with Ervin and Stanley, then followed by spring when it was time to make maple syrup with Stanley and Michael. Summer he loved berry picking so Bunny could make one of her famous pies; and evenings and weekends were spent with Stanley and Clem cheering on the lads playing ball. Fall brought deer hunting with Stanley and Joe, and whoever else they could roundup. And we all knew that if the truck was not beside the garage, that he could be found at the camp.

Dominic loved his six hand euchre. He enjoyed many great games with his special cousins Margaret and Ethel; even better if he had bragging rights.

Music was perhaps his number one passion. He loved to hear a great song and loved to sing one. And he could listen to fiddle tunes all day long. He enjoyed many great sessions with Jim Pittman and there was nothing finer than listening to his nephews and nieces, Donald, Dave, Margie and Eleanor play.

Dominic and Bunny ran their small grocery store for over 25 years and it was a pit stop for many passing by to stop in for a chat. Their door was always open to anyone.

Thanks to the staff of both the Manoir Sacré-Coeur in Fort Coulonge and the Friends of St Joseph’s Manor in Campbell’s Bay. Only in the Pontiac could we find such great people with the ability to provide over the top compassion and gentle care for their respective residents. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of St Joseph’s Manor or St Brigid’s Cemetery would be greatly appreciated.

Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 1040 Clarendon Street, Quyon, Quebec on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Quyon. Spring Interment St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Wolfe Lake Road, Quyon, Quebec.

It was a fine day in October and I wasn’t very sober

I was walking down the street all full of pride

When my feet began to flutter and I fell down in the gutter

and a pig came along and lay down by my side.

Now it didn’t hurt my pride as he lay there by my side

But a lady passing by I heard her say

You can judge a man who boozes

 By the company he chooses

So the pig got up and SLOWLY walked away.

Dominic would say it was a ‘great life altogether’,

and one that was ‘pretty hard to beat’…
